The Romsey Archers Safeguarding Policy

1. Policy Statement

The Romsey Archers is committed to creating and maintaining a safe and positive environment for everyone involved in archery, especially children, young people, and adults at risk. We accept a responsibility to safeguard their welfare and are committed to protecting them from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

This policy applies to all club members, volunteers, coaches, officials, parents/carers, and anyone working or volunteering on behalf of the club.

2. Legal Framework & Governance

 This policy aligns with Archery GB’s Safeguarding Policy and Procedures, which in turn complies with:

  •     The Children Act 1989 & 2004
  •     Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018
  •     The Care Act 2014 (for adults at risk)
  •     The Equality Act 2010
  •     GDPR/Data Protection Act 2018

 3. Key Principles

  • The welfare of children and adults at risk is paramount.
  • All individuals, regardless of age, disability, gender, race, religion, or sexual orientation, have the right to protection from abuse.
  • All concerns or allegations of abuse will be taken seriously and responded to appropriately.
  • The club promotes a culture of listening to and respecting all individuals.

4. Safeguarding Roles and Responsibilities

Club Welfare / Safeguarding Officer (CWSO)

The designated safeguarding officer is responsible for implementing and monitoring safeguarding policies, responding to concerns, and acting as the main point of contact with Archery GB’s Safeguarding Team.

Club Officials & Coaches must complete appropriate safeguarding training, DBS checks, and act in accordance with Archery GB’s Code of Conduct.

 All Members and Volunteers  share a duty of care and must report any concerns to the CWSO.

5. Recruitment and Training

 All individuals working with children or adults at risk must complete an enhanced DBS check (if eligible) and safeguarding training appropriate to their role.

Safer recruitment procedures will be followed, including references and interviews where appropriate.

6. Reporting Concerns

Any safeguarding concern, disclosure, or allegation must be reported to the CWSO or, if not available, directly to Archery GB’s Safeguarding team.

If someone is in immediate danger, call the police on 999.

7. Codes of Conduct

The club adopts and enforces the Archery GB Codes of Conduct for:

  • Coaches
  • Volunteers
  • Officials
  • Parents/Carers
  • Junior and Senior Archers

8. Photography and Social Media

Written consent is required for the use of images featuring children or adults at risk. Club social media will be monitored and used in accordance with Archery GB’s Social Media Policy.

9. Review

This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if there are changes in legislation, Archery GB policy, or following any safeguarding incident.
